The TTG Bible Centre is run by the Christadelphians in the Tea Tree Gully area.
The name ‘Christadelphian’
The name Christadelphians means ‘brothers and sisters in Christ’. It comes from two Greek words Christos (Χρίστος) meaning Christ, and adelphi (αδέλφοι) meaning brothers and sisters (masculine plural grammatical form in Greek also includes feminine).
The Christadelphian movement originated in the UK and US in the 1800’s and it’s focus was to only believe in doctrines that can be proved from the Bible and exclude the doctrines that were added after the first century which strayed from the original faith of Christ and his apostles.
It was said of the followers of Christ, “he is not ashamed to call them brothers” (Hebrews 2 v 11).
Christadelphian beliefs
Based on the Bible, Christadelphians believe that:
- The Bible is God’s message and reveals the true purpose of life (2Timothy 3 v 15-17, Habakkuk 2 v 14, Numbers 14 v 21).
- The one true God really cares about the earth and its preservation (Isaiah 45 v 18, Revelation 11 v 16-18).
- God promises to establish his kingdom and government on earth; removing all other governments and bringing worldwide peace and righteousness (Daniel 2 v 44, Isaiah 2 v 1-5; 11 v 1-10, Psalm 72).
- Jesus Christ is the Son of God and is the man appointed by God to be the future king of the world (Luke 1 v 30-33; 22 v 29, Matthew 3 v 17; 20 v 21-23, 1Corinthians 15 v 20-26, Acts 17 v 30-31).
- Soon Jesus will return visibly to earth to reign from Jerusalem over Jews, Arabs and all nations (Isaiah 2 v 3, Luke 1 v 30-33, Acts 1 v 6-11, 2Timothy 4 v 1).
- The Gospel is true – that Jesus lived, died and rose again to save us from sin and death and to give us a hope of eternal life (1Corinthians 15 v 1-9, Luke 1 v 1-4; 24 v 45-48, Romans 3 v 21-30; 4 v 13-25; 5 v 1-21; 6 v 1-23, 1Peter 2 v 20-25).
- Repentance from our sins, belief in the Gospel and baptism by full immersion are essential for salvation (Mark 16 v 15-16, Acts 2 v 36-41, Romans 6 v 1-23, Hebrews 6 v 1-6).
- Resurrection of our body, at the return of Jesus, is the only hope beyond death (Compare Romans 3 v 23 and Ezekiel 18 v 4, Ecclesiastes 3 v 19; 9 v 10, Psalm 49 v 12-20, Daniel 12 v 2-3, Acts 2 v 22-35, 1Corinthians 15 v 20-28, 1Thessalonians 4 v 13-16, Hebrews 11 v 13-16, 39-40).
We believe in careful Bible study to understand Bible truth. We have included a few Bible quotations in the points above but there is much more to explore.
Christadelphian practices
The Christadelphians have no paid ministry, no robes, or elaborate ceremonies. There is no ‘head of the church’ and no legislative council. Each ecclesia (the New Testament word for ‘church’) organises affairs internally, although ecclesial groups follow similar protocols. Like the ‘elders’ of New Testament times, members are appointed by each ecclesia to manage its affairs and preside at its meetings.
At the weekly meeting for the ‘breaking of bread’, there are hymns, prayers, readings from the Bible, and a short talk (an ‘exhortation’). The bread and wine circulate among all the ‘brothers and sisters’ present. Voluntary collections are taken to meet all the expenses.
Christadelphians hold regular public talks and exhibitions about the Bible and what it teaches and, have produced several public websites to help readers understand the Bible. They also teach children in Sunday Schools and Youth Groups. As a community, Christadelphians try to help and care for each other, throughout the world.
