April 2020 - Can Pope Francis save the EU?

Before COVID-19 monopilised the media it was all about Brexit and the EU; but what do we really know about the European Union?

Well, of recent times, it could hardly be properly called “united”!

But around 800AD when Pope Leo crowned Charlemagne Emperor of the “Holy Roman Empire” (which was actually neither holy, Roman or an Empire!) it brought about a union between the Catholic Church and the State or “empire”, and set in motion a train of events that culminated in what we see today as a European Union, in which the Catholic Church is deeply involved. Many of us would have seen the iconic photograph of the assembled representatives of the European states in their smart dark formal suits, together with Pope Francis, starkly white-robed, right in the middle at the front. It’s not difficult to judge just what statement this photo was making!

So, what is so interesting and significant about all this?

Well, simply that this whole story is outlined in Bible prophecy, recorded hundreds of years ago by men of God who wrote as God directed them. In fact, Bible prophecy also detailed the world Empires from the empire of Babylon down to the present divided condition of nations today. We can read about this in the prophecy of Daniel at Chapter 2, where the dream of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon is described and interpreted. Oh! And, incidentally, that dream of a mighty image, depicting future world empires, has been fulfilled specifically and accurately.

So, with this background understood, the question is “can Pope Francis save the EU?”.
